The American Worker Plans Adds Telephonic Medical Assistance & Access to Retail Medical Clinics to Limited Benefit Offering; First of its Kind for Limited Medical Industry
Barrington, IL – May 27, 2008 – The rapid growth in America’s medically uninsured population has been fueled by cost inflation for comprehensive major medical coverage. This is complicated by the increasing number of employees losing their existing coverage because of employers dropping group sponsored health insurance, reclassifying employees or employees not being able to afford the cost of coverage. In response to this trend, the American Worker Plans, Inc. today announced they have added two valuable features to their limited medical offering -- a telephonic medical assistance program through TelaDoc, Inc. and reimbursement for services at retail walk-in medical clinics.
The partnership with TelaDoc provides The American Worker Plans’ customers with access to consultative phone calls and pharmaceutical scripting at no additional cost to them. According to the American Worker Plans’ president George Duczak, limited benefit medical plans are a viable option as health insurance coverage as long as employees clearly understand both the benefits and limitations of these programs. “Many national employers have come to rely on these programs as a valuable employee recruiting and retention tool, and also their value in providing access to basic health and preventive health care coverage.”
He continued, “Working Americans often do not have the luxury of being able to take time off during working hours for basic medical attention. That is why we actively pushed for the inclusion of reimbursement for services at the fast growing segment of walk-in medical clinics, which are becoming common through retailers and pharmacy networks throughout the country.”
With this in mind, The American Worker Plans, underwritten by Nationwide Specialty Health, which is part of Nationwide Insurance, may now be used for service at walk-in retail medical clinics across the U.S. Duczak commented that these facilities “provide a convenient way for all types of workers to access face-to-face medical care for day to day needs.” Retail medical clinics are rapidly expanding across the U.S. and will allow workers to access care that is covered by their health plan, conveniently located near their homes and/or workplaces.
